Anchoring summer memories
September 5th, 2006Hello,
Some of you may have noticed my abscence for the last week or so - I have been on holiday with my family, in sunny if not windy Guernsey.
If you have not been there or if your reading this outside the UK, you may not know just how beautiful the Island is. The beaches are reminiscent of holidays long since past, e.g uncrowed, litter free, no parking charges & a small beach shop.
The pace is slower than the mainland & clearer & cleaner. Many times I anchored a favourite moment to re live & re play upon my return. In fact only to day during a particularly dull meeting I fired of an anchor & much to my colleagues suprise, a wry smile appeared across my face.
If you have not come across anchoring it is a powerful NLP technique that works on the simple ‘ stimulus - response’ theory of behavourism.
Try this as an experiement-
Think of a moment that was really special for you, see it clearly, make it bright with colour & contrast. Hear the sounds associated with the picture, both immediate & surrounding. Notice the feeling that comes up from these two sense’s. Build that feeling, double it, so it engulfs you. Now when you are at the peak of this re lived experience touch a knuckle on one of your hands with a finger & bring your experience to a climax.
Now take your finger off the knuckle & run through the 7 times table, twice, out loud if possible.
Now go back & touch the same knuckle you’ anchored’ your experience to - notice as the sensations come back - I am sure you can think of many situations where this can be used.

Keep well & anchor your summer memories for when it gets cold…!
